Soft Landings Waterfowl Rescue Taking Over Photo Contest!

Without the volunteer power to run our Majestic photo contest anymore, Kim has officially handed the reigns over to Melanie Simmonds. Going forward, Soft Landings Waterfowl Rescue will run an annual photo contest to benefit their own waterfowl sanctuary!

Sheena Update!

Sheena went for her follow-up x-ray at Kensington Bird & Animal Hospital on the 28th to check the position of the remaining piece of staple embedded within her gizzard, which could not be surgically removed. The second prong of the staple drifted slowly into the interior of her gizzard and she succussfully ground it up and pooped it out! A small piece (the top of the staple) is still deeply embedded within the muscle of her gizzard and our vet believes it will remain there. If by some chance this small bit does move into her gizzard, she should easilybe able to grind it up and poop it out as well.

Sheena is now cleared for adoption! She is a very sweet girl who gets along with every duck she's met at our sanctuary so far! She's so easy-going and will fill your heart with joy!

Because her family raised her on a low-quality duckling food, her leg bones developed with a mild bow. While her legs are very strong, in order to keep them this way, she cannot be penned with male ducks--females ONLY. We don't want boys mating her. Her new family should be prepared to sprinkle a small amount of joint supplement powder over her food every day. It is not expensive and we will provide Sheena's new family with their first canister and ordering information (amazon).

As with all of our adoptions, a safe predator-proof pen with top cover and digging predator barriers is required. This girl has been through enough--it's time for her happily ever after. No free range homes please! Interested adopters can fill out our online adoption application.
