Majestic Diary

April 2, 2008

Picked up a new hobby: making charm bracelets and necklaces. What fun! I'm finding all sorts of cool items to put onto chains. I gave a bracelet to Isabel and we are working on adding to it and I'm working on a necklace of my own.

We have a slew of visitors coming up on Saturday, 8 people between 1:00 & 6:00. Final visitors are friends and will be singing karaoke with us. Have I mentioned that we are huge karaoke fans? Yep--we have our own karaoke player (it's kind of like a dvd player) and we have about 20 discs. I like singing Alanis Morrisette, Pat Benatar, Gwen Stefani, Annie Lenox, The Go-go's, The Bangles, Cher, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and most of all Shakira. Friday night is singin' night in the Link family household!

In other non-duck rescuing news... heard about Patrick Swayze fighting pancreatic cancer. The Fab Five (Bunky, Pretty Girl, Merry, Pippin and Daisy May) came to us when their former mom (and one of my dearest friends) was diagnosed with the same ailment last Fall. And then I started thinking about Pat (See that? We're on a first name basis).

I remember I was in the 9th grade and I watched "The Renegades" on TV every week. Pat played the part of "Bandit" and he was in a street gang that helped the police. I had a crush on him and went to the movies to see "The Outsiders" because he was in it. I came out of the theater even more impressed and with a crush on Matt Dillon as well--whoops, didn't see that one coming! After that everyone knew who Pat was from Dirty Dancing and Ghost and I came to the conclusion that our "love" was no longer special, so I let him go.
Wha ha ha!

In any case, wishing Pat the best of luck in getting well. And Matt, wherever you are, wouldn't you like to sponsor a duck or goose?  It's only $25 for three months. Think of the good you will be doing... We could list your name on our Hall of Fame page and you could be famous...  HA HA HA!

            Matt Dillon                         Young Matthew

Incidentally, Young Matthew the duck is not named after Matt Dillon. He and Young Jeffrey duck were named after two friends of ours. Before I was married, when Tony and I were still dating (and didn't have ducks yet), I used to tease our two friends Matt and Jeff and accuse them of being secretly in love with me and desiring to follow me around everywhere in adoration of me. I told them that someday I would get two ducks and name them Young Jeffrey and Young Matthew. I told them the ducks would follow me everywhere in absolute devotion and that the two men would be jealous of them for this. What a riot it was at parties to walk Young Jeffrey and Young Matthew ducks out into the yard and call them by name in front of the two men, Jeff & Matt. Everyone laughed--too funny!

So, Matt Dillon, where ever you are, please don't get all big-headed thinking I named my gorgeous duck after you. Not so, I'm afraid. I mean, as handsome as you may be, Young Matthew has you beat by a long shot, and he is all heart; plus he has absolute faith in me. I love that in a man.

Okay... enough of that!  Ha ha!

Hmmm... You know I sent my query letter for my "Pet Duck Guide Book" to TFH Publications 4 weeks ago... nothing yet. I wonder if it's lost in the shuffle. 2 more weeks and I'm moving on to another publisher.
