Letting Go...

To a few of our Momma Duck friends who have had to let go of their little angels:

Always remember... When your feathered little ones slip through your attentive fingers, it is not your fault. Sometimes we give them everything we have and it's just not enough.

Ducks (and geese) are not like other pets. They hide when they're sick until things have progressed to the point that they just can't disguise it anymore. It's an instinct that can fool even the most attentive Momma Ducks (myself included). And when we seek out our vets and attempt to treat them, many of our ducks and geese have trouble with anesthesia and medications--trouble that most other pets never have to worry about, but that definitely doesn't mean we shouldn't try to help them!

Unfortunately, sometimes trying doesn't always work the way we wish it did, but... we still need to make peace with the fact that when we make those really tough choices, or have trouble diagnosing our feathered friends, or even make mistakes--it is NOT our fault when things get tricky and go wrong.

Being a good Momma Duck is not easy business and there are rarely easy decisions to be made. Many of us often have to choose between "bad" and "worse" scenarios--do we intervene and risk letting go of them now, or do we do nothing and accept the fact that we'll likely lose them in the near future?

Just know that these blessed little, feathered beings are not looking back upon this world with any anger, or blame, or sadness. They are looking back with love and joy while thinking, "Boy, that Momma Duck of mine was really awesome; especially, when she gave me worms to eat!"

Barn Roof Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who participated in this vital fundraiser! We met our goal and the roofers will be coming near the end of June/early July to get that new roof over the heads of our rescues!

Special thanks to our sponsor for their kindness and generosity! Bless you... You mean the world to us and to those who you help us save!

Barn Collage

Kim has been putting a lot of hours into fixing up our barn. Not only has she been painting the interior and prepping the exterior for a fresh coat of chocolate brown stain, but she's also been working on a collage.

Since our inception, Kim has been saving piles of photos and cards that people have mailed in to us, and now they're being laminated onto the walls where our rescues sleep at night!

Which reminds us... Kim found these photos in her shoebox of duck cards and photos, but couldn't remember who they were and there was no writing on the backs. Are these your ducks? If so, please contact us and let us know who they are, so we can properly label their photos!
