Billy-Cha Biopsy Results

We have great news! As a follow-up to last month's artical about the mass near the base of Billy-Cha's hip, testing has revealed that it is most likely a granuloma (a mass of tissue, which tends to form around infection, inflammation or a foreign body). Basically, it's harmless, and since it really isn't bothering him, we're just going to leave well enough alone. Yay, Billy!

The Mallard Maruzo Letters

Kim's new book The Mallard Maruzo Letters is now available for purchase on amazon!

Lew & Sally's five Mallards:  Lewy, Phoebe, Peter, Pauly and Peabody, all arrived in December of 2013--and life at Majestic Waterfowl Sanctuary has never been the same!

The unique personalities of these five little ducks are brilliantly cartooned into this whimsical collection of hilarious letters!

Marv The Therapy Duck

Have you heard the news? After adopting Marv, his new family certified him as a therapy duck!

In order to become certified, Marv's parents had to pay a one-time, upfront registration fee to receive their ducky qualification package. This kit included a multi-page checklist form that needed to be completed by his vet. This meant that Marv had to go in for an appointment, so that his vet could evaluate his personality. TIP:  Be sure your vet is onboard with this qualification procedure before you order your kit!

During Marv's appointment, his vet gave him a wellness exam, which is a vital part of qualification. Once deemed healthy, she then tested his comfort level and behavior in particular situations--like how he reacted around other humans and animals he didn't know. She also confirmed that his demeanor remained calm and unwavering even when the situation in the room changed unexpectedly, making sure he wouldn't become nervous, frightened or even aggressive in different scenarios.

After passing his test in flying colors (okay, maybe not "flying" colors, but you know what we mean!), Marv's vet signed his test and faxed his forms to National Service Animal Registry and then... Tah Dah! It all became official!

Congratulations, Marv!

Marv's Therapy Animal Certification status will help him make educational appearances (including traveling to schools with his Momma) to teach children and adults the differences between wild & domestic ducks, about the proper care of pet ducks, to help stop classroom hatching programs and to speak up about the serious issue we face regarding waterfowl abandonment. Thank you, Marv and family, for helping pet ducks everywhere!
