Sanctuary
Calendar

This is a
loose schedule of our upcoming projects. This schedule
may fluctuate unexpectedly if we have a rescue to do. It
is also based on best possible weather conditions.
Sometimes we get ahead of schedule sometimes behind...
but our website is continually being updated, so you are
looking at our current best guess.
These
larger tasks are in addition to the normal
day-to-day activities which include pitching hay,
cleaning & filling water buckets, filling feeders with
appropriate rations, etc.
Weather
permitting, onsite volunteer opportunities usually take
place on Saturdays between 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and
on Sundays 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
We ask that
our Onsite Volunteers each show up for at least 4 hours of
service on any given day. Onsite Volunteers need to commit to
volunteering on a consistent basis at least four
times a year.
2011 Schedule:
Current projects include:
Setting 12" & 16" paving stones on
walking paths and under goose houses.
This task requires lifting
(approx. 30-35 lbs).
Modifying our new duck houses (adding
doors). Some use of
hand tools required.
Repairing the Quarantine pen roof that was
damaged in the blizzard. Some
construction experience needed.
Adding supports to the roof in our
Louisville enclosure. Some
construction experience needed along with ladder work.
Daily responsibilities include:
Replenishing food.
Volunteers should be able to lift 50 lb. grain bags
into our Duck Truck (which is a fancy name for our
wagon!) and then pull it over to the barn.
Refreshing hay in barns and houses.
Barn cleaning.
Requires use of pitchfork, shovel and wheelbarrow.
Spring/Summer/Fall responsibilities
include:
Inspecting water lines and adjusting
valve flow as needed.
Mucking out the occasional pond.
Hope you don't mind the smell
of duck poop because this is a STINKY job!
Pruning trees and pulling any extraneous
growth back inside the aviary nets.
Volunteers will need to be
comfortable standing on a 6' ladder.
Fall/Winter responsibilities
include:
Changing water in heated water buckets
and ensuring all are functioning properly.
Clearing aviary nets during snowstorms
(even in the middle of the night).
Shoveling snow.
Sanding icy pens to make them safe.
Returning Onsite
Volunteers

Please review
the calendar above and then
Email us with the date and time you would like to
come join us again. Please remember to include your full name
and phone number in the email. Our Volunteer Coordinator
will confirm your appointment within 24 hours of
receiving your email.
Thank you and we look
forward to seeing you again!
Food & Drink:
We provide plenty of lemonade and
water to our volunteers to ensure everyone is fully
hydrated.
Volunteers will need to bring their own
lunch and/or snacks.
Occasionally, when large tasks are on
the agenda, we will advise our volunteers ahead of time
that dinner will be provided at the END of the workday.
Dinner will ONLY be provided to those volunteers who
show up on time at the start of the day and
finish up with the rest of us at the end of the day.
Late shows or early departures will not be rewarded with
this complimentary meal. Volunteers must participate in
the ENTIRE workday in order to qualify.
We
will either order pizza & grinders or we will drive you into town and treat you to an
all you can eat dinner that has never gone wrong!
